White As Snow

from Bare Foot Folk by Ange Hardy

/

about

A tale inspired by a scene in the film “Another Earth”. This song was written while sitting at my kitchen table during the heavy snowfall of March 2013.

lyrics

Why did the young girl run into the snow
and run beyond the dark of night into the heart of cold
Stood by the waters she took away her gown
she held it out beyond her side and gently laid it down

The whitest of faces
as white as the ground
looks up toward heaven
while heaven looks down

Coldness crept over into her very bones
she blew into the darkness onto fingers turned to stone
Gently so gently her hand she had unbound
she took the letter from her palm and slowly laid it down

The whitest of faces
as white as the ground
looks up toward heaven
while heaven looks down

Where by the waters that letter came to land
a single petal red as blood lay lonely on the ground
While muted birds watched her the air it held no sound
She caught her cold it took her life and dead it laid her down

The whitest of faces
as white as the ground
looks up toward heaven
while heaven looks down
